I'll admit outright that I've never tried it, so I may just be talking out my ass here. But my thinking is, if I can make a good impression in 4 to 8 minutes, why not just approach a woman who: A) Appeals to me B) Is giving me some signal that she may be interested I know the speed-dating thing is supposed to be more relaxed because "you know the other person is there for the same reason." But it seems too contrived and artificial to me. It's just a way to extract some cash from spineless wussies. It does this by giving them some glimmer of hope that maybe, just maybe, this is how they are going to meet their soul mate, or maybe get laid, or at least get a date. I realize that this same criticism is frequently leveled at PUA gurus like Deangelo et. al., but I can think of one very key difference. <i>The PUA dudes teach you to make something happen for yourself; to take control of your own situation and make it better.</i> Speed dating, on the other hand, simply offers you a way do an end run around your own lack of confidence and skills - and for a very short time at that. It leaves you with nothing more than you started with. Personally, I think the whole speed-dating thing is lame.
